Description

Looking for a cani-rando experience on the Chaîne des Puys for your child from age 5? 🐕 Takamaka Clermont hands children their own leash — attached to a Husky or Malamute — and takes them on a 2h30 hike through the volcanic landscapes of Auvergne, guided by Rémi, a passionate musher 🌿. This is no passive stroll: children guide their own dog, match its pace, and learn to communicate with it — a physical, educational and deeply moving experience near Clermont-Ferrand 🐾. Kennel visit, pack introduction, and a shared snack included: a complete half-day adventure from just €35 🔥.

Good to know

⏱️ The cani-rando lasts 2h30 of actual hiking, but plan for a full half-day so your child can enjoy every part of the experience: meeting the Nordic dogs (Husky and Malamute), a gentle first contact with the pack, a kennel tour, a chat with Rémi the musher about his passion, and a friendly shared snack on the way back. 🌡️ Outings are organised according to outside temperatures: no rides take place above 20°C to protect the wellbeing and safety of the dogs. Start times are weather-dependent and confirmed when you book — the Takamaka team will keep you informed. 🐾 This is a child-only ticket (from €35). If an adult will be joining the hike alongside the child, they need to book a separate adult ticket (from €39). Each child receives their own leash and harness and guides their dog throughout the hike, with Rémi supervising at all times. The activity is open to all from age 5. 👥 Sessions run in groups of 4 to 12 people. If you're not coming as a complete group, Takamaka brings together participants to make up the session. Transport to the Chaîne des Puys is not included in the price. 🎒 Leash and harness are provided. Dress your child in comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and a pair of trainers or walking shoes.

How the activity works

1

🐾 Meeting the pack and kennel tour

The moment they arrive, children's eyes go wide. Rémi takes them straight to the kennel for proper introductions: the Husky and Malamute dogs, their names, their personalities, their place in the team. This is often the most magical moment of the whole half-day — and the cuddles with the dogs start well before the hike does.
2

🎯 Getting kitted out and learning the basics

Rémi hands each child their own leash and harness, and explains patiently and cheerfully how to attach their dog, how to guide it, and how to read its signals. Within minutes, even the shyest children are proudly holding their dog, ready to lead their very own team.
3

🌋 2h30 of cani-rando on the Chaîne des Puys trails

And they're off! Each child guides their dog along the volcanic trails of the Chaîne des Puys, with Rémi there throughout. The dog helps on the climbs, the child learns to communicate, to trust, to adapt — a human and animal adventure played out at child height, in the heart of the Auvergne landscape.
4

🍫 Snack, cuddles, and memories to take home

Back at the kennel, the half-day wraps up with a friendly shared snack. Children often get one last chance to be with the dogs — more cuddles, photos, and endless questions for Rémi. They head home with a look of pride in their eyes and memories that will last long after the day is done.

Why choose Takamaka ?

🐕 Children's cani-rando on the Chaîne des Puys with Takamaka Clermont calls for more than just a guide: it takes someone who knows how to create a real bond between a child and an animal, safely, on sometimes-challenging natural terrain. That's exactly what Rémi, a professional musher based on the slopes of the Chaîne des Puys, brings to every outing. For 7 years in Clermont-Ferrand, Takamaka has shaped children's cani-rando into a genuinely educational and sensory experience: the child isn't a passenger — they're an active participant, responsible for their dog, proud to hold the leash. 🦮 Rémi naturally adjusts his communication and support for younger participants: he explains, reassures, and encourages throughout. The dogs are used to children — calm, gentle, and perfectly suited to this kind of encounter. With 30 years of outdoor adventure expertise rooted in Annecy, Takamaka brings the same rigorous standards — safety, animal welfare, professional supervision — and applies them here with particular care for the youngest participants. 🌋 And because the dogs never go out above 20°C, parents can be confident that every outing takes place in the best possible conditions for both the animals and the children.
