Good to know

⏱️ The cani-rando lasts 2h30 of actual hiking time — plan for a full half-day to enjoy the complete experience: meeting the Nordic dogs (Husky and Malamute), a first gentle contact with the pack, a kennel tour, a conversation with Rémi your musher about life with dogs, and a friendly shared snack on your return. 🕑 The session runs from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. This fixed time slot makes it easy to plan your day — check the departure time when booking and arrange your transport accordingly. 🐾 Each participant receives their own leash and harness: you guide your own dog throughout the hike, with Rémi there to support you every step of the way. No experience needed — the activity is open to everyone from age 5. 👥 Sessions run in groups of 4 to 12 people. If you're not booking as a complete group, Takamaka brings together individual participants to make up the session. 🎒 Equipment (leash and harness) is provided. Bring weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes or trainers. Transport to the Chaîne des Puys is not included in the price.

How the activity works

1

🐾 Meeting the pack and kennel tour

On arrival, Rémi welcomes you and heads straight to the kennel to introduce you to his dogs: their names, breeds, and personalities. This is the moment of first strokes, curious eyes, and that instant connection that forms between a person and a Nordic dog. A truly special moment — before you've even set foot on the trail.
2

🎯 Briefing and gearing up

Rémi hands you your leash and harness, and walks you through how to attach your dog, how to guide it, and how to read its signals. A few simple techniques, a little attentiveness — and suddenly you're ready to lead your own team of one.

🌋 2h30 of cani-rando on the Chaîne des Puys

The adventure begins. For 2h30, you hike the volcanic trails of the Chaîne des Puys with your dog at your side, guided by Rémi. Your dog helps you up the climbs, you communicate, you build trust together — and the Auvergne landscape unfolds beautifully all around you.
4

🍫 Back to base, snack and a last moment with the dogs

Back at the start point, the half-day wraps up with a shared friendly snack. It's also a chance to reflect on your experience, chat with Rémi about life with the pack, and savour a little longer the unexpected bond you'll have formed with your dog.

Why choose Takamaka ?

🐕 Cani-rando in Auvergne with Takamaka Clermont calls for an instructor who knows his dogs as well as his terrain — and that's exactly what Rémi, a professional musher based on the Chaîne des Puys, brings to every outing. For 7 years in Clermont-Ferrand, Takamaka has built this activity around a genuine bond between participant and animal: here, you're not a passenger — you hold the leash, you guide your dog, you experience it from the inside. 🦮 What Takamaka does particularly well with cani-rando is the balance between guidance and freedom: Rémi teaches you the basics of the human-dog relationship, how to communicate with your animal, which gestures reassure and which ones motivate — without ever turning the hike into a lecture. The progression feels natural, intuitive, and deeply rewarding. With 30 years of outdoor adventure expertise rooted in Annecy, Takamaka applies the same rigorous standards — animal welfare, safety, professional supervision — to every cani-rando outing on the Chaîne des Puys. 🌋
