Description

Picture groomed snow under your skis, the tow rope tightening in your hands, and suddenly the power of a horse launching you forward in a mountain silence broken only by hoofbeats and the edge of your skis cutting the snow. Ski joëring is the winter incentive near Clermont-Ferrand that brings together in a single discipline what skiing enthusiasts and horse lovers each look for separately. At Mont-Dore, between snowy open ground and forest, your colleagues discover a mountain activity they would never have imagined experiencing together.

The experience opens with a paired initiation led by an instructor, who takes the time to teach the basics of harness handling and the essential techniques for skiing safely behind a horse. Once everyone has found their footing, the team heads out on the circuit autonomously. And for those who want to push the adrenaline further, Takamaka Clermont can organise a speed challenge, a slalom or a mini raid that ratchet up the tension and competition all the way to the final turn.

Ski joëring takes place on groomed snow, in a closed arena or on a track, day or night. Ski equipment is provided and a buffet of hot drinks and treats waits for the group at the end. A half-day of activity, truly novel sensations and a rare connection between a team, horses and the Auvergne mountains.

How the activity works

1

Welcome and paired initiation

On arrival at Mont-Dore, the Takamaka Clermont instructor welcomes the group, distributes the ski equipment and introduces the horses and harness gear. The initiation runs in pairs with the instructor: each participant learns the basics of harness handling, the signals to use with the horse and the ski positions to adopt for safe towing. The first pulls on groomed snow give everyone a chance to find their footing.
2

Autonomous circuit time

Once the initiation is signed off, participants head out autonomously on the ski joëring circuit, between open snowy ground and forest. The sensation of being towed by a horse on skis is immediately exhilarating and every metre builds confidence and commitment. The instructor supervises the session and keeps an eye on the whole group's safety throughout the circuit.
3

Buffet and close

The session ends around a buffet of hot drinks and treats that warms bodies and spirits after the effort. It is the moment for stories to be shared, the best slides to be relived and the team cohesion built on the circuit to carry naturally into a warm and relaxed close.

Why choose Takamaka ?

Ski joëring is one of the rarest and most original activities in the Takamaka Clermont catalogue, and it is at Mont-Dore that it makes complete sense, in a natural setting that makes the encounter between horse, snow and team genuinely powerful. With 7 years of local experience and careful selection of its equestrian partners, Takamaka Clermont ensures a well-supervised, safe session designed for a corporate audience.

The activity is fully managed end-to-end: ski equipment provided, instructor on site for the initiation and supervision, autonomous circuit time and competitive options available on request. The hot drinks and treats buffet at the end is the natural conclusion to a half-day that genuinely breaks the mould of standard winter seminar formats.

Up to 50 people, day or night, with the option of building ski joëring into a broader winter seminar programme at the Sancy: it is the winter incentive that consistently surprises and generates lasting collective memories around a discipline most participants are discovering for the very first time.

FAQ

What is ski joëring?

Ski joëring is an original winter activity combining skiing and horse riding. Pulled by a horse and accompanied by an instructor, participants enjoy a fun and sporty experience in the snowy landscapes of the Sancy mountains.

Do we need previous skiing or ski joëring experience?

No previous ski joëring experience is required. A professional instructor will first introduce participants to the basics of the activity before they head out onto the course.

What happens if the snow conditions are not suitable?

The activity depends on weather and snow conditions. Our team will help you organise your event and can suggest an alternative activity if ski joëring cannot take place.

How does the team building work?

The activity starts with an introduction in pairs with an instructor. Participants learn the basics of handling the horse-drawn equipment before heading out onto the course. Depending on your objectives, we can also organise a speed challenge, slalom or mini raid.
